Moultrie D40/i40 and i60

Well, to start with, The i60 costs about a hundred dollars more than the i40 or the D40. While the Moultrie Game Spy I-40 retails for $197, and the  D40 for only about $97, the Moultrie i60 stands with a price tag of $290.  Of course, these prices are based on the average internet prices you will get. What else differentiates these game cameras from one-another ? How about Mega pixels. While the i60 boasts 6 mega pixels, the i40 and D40 only have four. Big difference? Well, I would say noticeable. The resolution on the i60 is definitely finer, but then you may ask if it really matters?  That is for you to say. I guess the real question is, is it worth $100 or more to have 6 mega pixels over 4?

Probably the most noticeable difference between the i60 and the i40/D40 is that the i60 has a picture viewer, while the others do not. So, if it is important for you to see the pictures on the field, then the i60 is going to be the one to go with. If it isn’t a big deal to wait until you get home, than one of the others will suffice. Another noticeable difference is that both the i60 and i40 have infrared flash, while the D40 has a visible white flash. This means that game won’t even know what hit them with the i60 and i40, but a large, white, visible flash will accompany the night-time picture taking of the D40. Also, the i60 and the i40 have a longer flash range of 50 ft. Longer than the flash range of the D40, which comes in a tad shorter at 45 ft.

Another thing to think about is infrared capability. The i60 and i40 are equipped with infra-red technology. The D40 is not. Another difference is in the information your camera will include with the picture. Of course, all three record date and time. However, the i60 also includes barometric pressure readings, temperature readings, and even moon phases. The i40 includes temperature and moon phase, but not barometric pressure.  The D40, on the other hand, includes date and time only.

Another thing to consider is video. The i40 and i60 are equipped to take day and night video, while the D40 is not.  Also, the i40 and i60 have a short, one second trigger time, while the D40’s trigger time is a bit longer. The i60 also boasts a remote control, a handy feature you won’t find on either of the other cameras.  All in all, you get more with the i60 and i40, but you pay for it. The D40 is nearly a hundred dollars cheaper than the i40, and almost two hundred dollars cheaper than the i60.
